Overview:
NCAM collects, cares for and provides access to archival materials and artefacts that represent the stories of the people, places and development of Northumberland County. NCAM is the official repository for the Town of Cobourg’s historical municipal records and other municipalities across the County. NCAM is currently located at the Cobourg Public Library at 200 Ontario St.

The Cobourg & District Historical Society began the Archives in 1980. The collection grew to be a great representation of early life in Cobourg thanks to dedicated volunteers and the contributions of residents. In 2012, Northumberland County began managing the Archives, expanding its services to cover all of Northumberland. In 2019, the Archives was renamed the Northumberland County Archives & Museum (NCAM) to reflect its diverse collection of documentary materials and objects and to align with future exhibitions and public programs. Details on the planned upgrade to NCAM are available here.

Hours:
NCAM is open to the public by appointment only, Monday-Friday. NCAM is closed on all statutory holidays.

• Access to artefacts and documents representing lives from all over Northumberland County – historical and contemporary – including municipal records, family and genealogical records, property records, photos, maps, and other items
• Professional preservation advice
• Programming-in-class ‘Intro to Primary Sources’ for young primaries, as well as a comprehensive lesson package for Grade 3 entitled ‘Life in the 1800’s in Northumberland County’
• Engaging virtual tours and ‘talks’ to groups, which can be customized by interest.
